Add Border Gateway Switches

Import border gateway switches that provide inter-site connectivity.

Border Gateway Role

Border Gateway switches (like Site1-BGW1 and Site2-BGW1) connect your VXLAN fabrics to the ISN fabric, handling inter-site VXLAN routing and enabling Layer 2/3 extension between sites.

ISN Integration

These switches are managed in both their local site fabric and the ISN fabric, providing seamless multi-site connectivity with automated configuration by Nexus Dashboard.

Step 1 - Add Switches to the Fabric

Your Switches table is empty at the moment. To populate it with the switches in your Site1 fabric:

  1. Click Inventory in the top navigation bar
  2. Click Actions
  3. Click Add Switches in the dropdown

Step 2 - Populate Seed Switch Details

The Add Switches Wizard needs some information to automaticaly be able to discover and add your external device for management by Nexus Dashboard.

  1. Set the Seed IP to 10.3.22.20
  2. Leave the Authentication Protocol set to MD5
  3. Leave the Device Type set to NX-OS
  4. Set the Username to admin
  5. Set the Password to cisco.123
  6. Set Max Hops to 0
  7. Click Discover Switches in the bottom right

Step 3 - Add Switches

Only one device is expected to be discovered for your ISN fabric in this lab; a device with the hostname Core-Rtr.

  1. Click the checkbox beside the Switch Name column heading to select all
  2. Click Add Switches in the bottom right
  3. The import progress will start:

Step 4 - Confirm Switches Added & Exit Add Switches Wizard

The import process should be successful and the Status show Switch Added. The Progress column should show the progress bar as fully green, i.e. progress complete and successful. If you see anything different than the screenshot below, please notify a lab instructor.

  1. Once the switch shows added, click the Close button in the bottom right

Step 5 - Review ISN Router

Upon exiting the Add Switches wizard, you will be redirected back the Switches overview. Click on the just imported router Core-Rtr to see the details.
